This is a replica of a Viking sword from the period of about 950 - 1050 AD. The five-lobed pommel is of typical Viking design. Plain, flat crossguards were common on early Viking swords, while curved crossguards show Anglo-Saxon influence. Swords of this type were used mainly for slashing, often in conjunction with a shield. Overall length of a sword of this type would have been about 36" with a blade of about 30". A weight of under three pounds would have been typical.
Constructed of poplar, this sword is not intended for
sparring, but will take a fair amount of abuse from adventurous young
warriors. Sword comes in unfinished wood.
